Xizhou is located at 18 kilometers north of Dali. It is a typical commercial
center of Bai Nationality, which is most famous for the Bai-style architectures.
The Bai houses are very distinctive, a lane way which is paved with flagstone
and deviously in line leads to the house. A gate tower and screened walls
are at the entrance with the typical national ornamental on them.
The Yan's compound is the model of the Bai's traditional residential characteristics.
It combined the Chinese and western architectural style together. The
Yan's compound lies in the central part of Xizhou. It is made up of Sanfangyizhaobi,
Sihewutianjing, and an independent three-storied western-style building.
Each doors, windows, and walls of the houses are designed delicately.
From these we can know the superb skills and creative talents of the Bai
Nationality.
Besides visiting the Bai-style architectures, you also have chances to
experience the living styles of the local people and taste their special
"Three Courses of Tea".
