Three
Pagodas are located at the northwest suburb of Dali, occupying a scenic
location at the foot of Mt. Cangshan and facing Erhai Lake. It is one
of the three curiosities of Chinese ancient architecture (Zhaozhou Bridge
in Hebei Province and Big Wild Goose Pagoda in Xian, Shaanxi Province
are the other two).
Qianxun Pagoda in the middle is the highest one among three pagodas with
16 tiers and the total height of 69.13 meters. There are four shines on
each story, and Buddhist sculpture on the east and west shrines, the other
two shrines are the windows for the pagoda. The fourth and sixth floor
are embossed splendid. Buddhist scriptures, books, Buddha made of gold,
silver, bronze, iron, porcelain, jade and many other cultural relics were
discovered in the pagoda. The two smaller octagonal pagodas are on the
two sides of Qianxun Pagoda made the whole complex more perfect.
