Huangpu
River, 97 km long, rising in the lake district of Shanghai Municipality,
and flowing northeast past Shanghai into the Yangtze Rive at Wusong. Although
it is only about 400 meter wide and 9 meter deep, it sustains about one
third of the China's total international trade. It is also a major water
source for Shanghai.
A
Huangpu River Cruise is one of the best ways to see both old and new Shanghai.
On one side of the river, tourists can view the Bund with historical buildings
of the Western styles, the Old City Town, the Park bridge, the People's
Heroes Monument and Huangpu Park. On the other side, tourists can view
Oriental Pearl TV Tower, and the two giant suspended bridges over the
river. At Wusong Kou, the mix of the heavily silted water of the Huangpu
River with the clearer ocean tide creates three beautiful layers of color:
yellow, green, and blue. Night cruises provide the most dramatic views
of Shanghai.
