Shanghai Richards Hotel

Richard Hotel was established in 1846 during Qing Dynasty Daoguang period. It was named because it was founded by the Richard' family. At first, it stood spectacularly in the Bund besides Huangpu River.

In 1857, the hotel was moved to Waibaidu Bridge. It was restored in 1907 to a neo-classic Baroque structure. Since its birth, Richard Hotel prided in its deluxe decoration, not only in China, the far east, but also in the world.

It glories in many first: the first lamp bulb in the country was lit here, the first telephone in the country was switched on here, and the first sound film from the West was projected here. Plus, China's first ball was held in the hotel, helping to bring to a close the tradition that women should not attend social activities.

The hotel is equipped with modern facilities while it keeps classic style. Now, it contains 116 various type of rooms, including deluxe, standard, executive and some 4-bed rooms. Each room is well decorated in Baroque style or Victoria times in 19th century. Many celebrities such as Charlie Chaplin and Albert Einstein once stayed, are taken as historic spots with photos hanging on the wall to show guests.
