Tar
Monastery is located in Huangzhong County 25 km from Xining, the capital
of Qinghai and was built in 1560.
As one of the six greatest monasteries of a Tibetan Buddhism sect called
Gelug, Tar Monastery lies in a mountain cove and its architecture harmoniously
combined ancient Chinese and Tibetan style. Including the Greater and
Lesser Golden-Tiled Temples, Grand Sutra Hall, there are 9,000 rooms in
total. All these rooms were well-conceived planed and delicate decorated.
Butter sculptures, frescoes and padded embroidery are the three treasures
of the monastery.
