Aitida
Mosque (Id Kah Mosque) is situated in the center of the Kashi City, Xingjiang
Uygur Autonomous Region. It ranges the largest mosque in China with an
area of 16,800 square meters, and could hold 10,000 prayers at the same
time. It is also renowned for its long and glorious history, which has
the history of more than 550 years.
The building complex comprises the Hall of Prayer, the Doctrine-Teaching
Hall, the gate tower, a pond and some other auxiliary structures. Among
them, the gate tower is the most eye-catching one for its exquisite design.
The tower on the top of the gate is the place where the imam would call
out loudly at dawn to wake up the Muslims and summon them to attend service.
Many trees, flowers and a pond are in the courtyard, and the pottery pots
on the pond's bank are used to clean the Islam believers' bodies. Pass
through the courtyard is the main hall, in which one hundred carved wooden
columns supporting the hall's ceiling. It is a magnificent building.
Altogether there are 36 Halls of Scripture on both the south and north
sides of Id Kah Mosque. Every Friday afternoon more than 6,000 Moslems
come to worship here, and it is one of the liveliest places during the
Korban festivities.
