Stone City lies in the north of Kashi, and was surrounded by Pamirs Plateau,
Kecikunlun Mountain, and Xingdukusi Mountain. As a part of the world roof,
the average elevation of The Stone City is above 4,000 meters. It was
once the royal city during the period of 206BC to 219AD (the Han Dynasty),
and was enlarged in the following dynasties for its important strategic
situation. The city was also the only way for camel trains on the ancient
Silk Road. Thousands of years have passed, the city now is only a ruin,
but the special camel bell and the unadorned Tajike nationality could
take you back to the past prosperity.
