Aydingkol
Lake lies about 50 km southeast of Turpan. It is the second lowest point
after the Dead Sea at 391meters in the world with an altitude of 154.33
meters below sea level. Thick salt at the bottom of the lake let the lake
looks like a crystal, so the local Uigur people also call it "Moonlight
Lake".
Because of the high salt content in the water, there are neither fishes
live in the lake nor birds land on the shores. But the peculiar geographical
and plants compose a unique sight, which attracts many foreign and local
tourists. The lake also is rich of resources, such us vitriol, Glauber's
salt, coal and an alkaline soil and so on. Many Han Dynasty beacon towers
can be used to overlook this beautiful scene.
