Echoing-Sand Mountain & Crescent Lake

Echoing-Sand Mountain and Crescent Lake are essentially at the same area. They located 6 kilometers (3.73 miles) south of Dunhuang city, Gansu Province.

The Echoing-Sand Mountain, surrounded by rolling ridges and precipitous cliffs, reaches a relative elevation of 250 meters (820 feet). Every time when the wind sweeps across the sands, a thunder-like sound can be heard from the mountain, and the sound like musical instruments if there is a breeze, hence the name Echoing-Sand Mountain.

The climb to the top of the dune is the most marvelous experience. Though it is sweaty work, the dramatic view from the top makes the effort worthwhile. It is a popular activity to ride sleds down the sand slopes, much like snow-sledding in winter. The tremendous sound is produced when sliding down along the sands. It is really a wonderfully experience!

Crescent Lake is located in the arms of Echoing-Sand Mountain. It appears its clear and beautiful quietly. These two attractions offer picturesque desert scenery.
