Western
Thousand-Buddhas Cave is located 35 kilometers (about 21.7 miles) southwest
of Dunhuang, Gansu Province. It situated on a cliff in the western part
of Mogao Caves, so it is named Western Thousand-Buddhas Cave.
Most of the caves were excavated during the North Wei Dynasty (386-543).
But seven of the caves can not be reached, which makes them more mysterious.
They are another important Buddhist spot. Tourists can only observe them
from a distance.
